DAY 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

From Cusco very early in the morning at 5:00 a.m., we will journey by bus to Mollepata (this is the head of the trail) it takes about 3 hours to walk. When we arrive, we will have our first breakfast and arrange our horses, afterwards we walk up for approximately 3 more hours to Cruz Pata Where we will have lunch, then after lunch we take an hour to rest and then start hiking to Soraypampa (3,850 m.a.s.l.), in this part of the trail we are going to see in front of us the Humantay, a snow capped mountain. Afterwards we will find our first campsite at 5:30 p.m. where our porters will be waiting with hot tea. Later we are going to have our dinner (this first campsite is the coldest).


DAY 2: Soraypampa - Chaullay

After a good breakfast and leaving at 6:30 a.m., we have to climb for 4 hours to the Salkantay mountain pass. This place is over 4,600 m.a.s.l., at the top of the Salkantay mountain pass (the highest point). We stop for around 25 minutes to take some pictures, from here we will have great views of the mountain range and we will find some heaps of stones (Apachetas) around this pass. After this we will be hiking for another 4 hours through a nice trail to Chaullay, which is lower than the first campsite at 2,900 m.a.s.l, here we will have tea time and dinner.


DAY 3: Chaullay - La Playa (Sawayaco) - Santa Teresa

We leave from Chaullay early after our breakfast at 7:00 a.m.  Next we pass through Collcapampa where we will walk on a narrow trail on the mountainside, crossing some species of orchids and different kinds of plants, cornfields, and fruit fields. Here we will have the opportunity to see the most beautiful waterfall on the trail. After walking for 5 hours, we will finally arrive to La Playa village, where we will board a small truck or mini bus to go to Santa Teresa village which is more than 1,645 m.a.s.l. This will take just 45 minutes by truck and we will get to Santa Teresa around 1:00 pm to set up our tents. After this, we will go to the hot springs which are only a 45 minute drive away.


DAY 4: Santa Teresa - Hydroelectric station - Aguas Calientes

We get up at 7:00 a.m. and after breakfast we will start hiking for approximately 2 hours to get to the Urubamba river which we cross river in a hanging basket. After this spectacular experience we keep going for 2 more hours to a hydroelectric power station which is also a small village and the train station for this part of the trail. Here we can see many kinds of fruits, tree and plants. Finally we arrive to the last place of our adventure, the hydroelectric station where we will stay around 3:00 p.m. to board the local train to Aguas Calientes (1 hour trip) where we spend the night in a hotel.


DAY 5: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

We have to get up very early in the morning at 5:30 a.m. to have breakfast and then board the first bus to the archeological site of Machu Picchu. When we get to Machu Picchu, the tour guide will be with us for approximately 2 hours, and will explain the meanings, importance and story of Machu Picchu while we walk around the city and visit the most important places.  After the tour you will have the option for climbing up to the Huayna Picchu Mountain or continue on your own to enjoy more of Machu Picchu. After this we board a bus to Aguas Calientes and then we take a 4 hour train ride back to Cusco arriving at approximately 8:20 p.m.
